"What if you could turn back time?"
I heard the teaspoon settled on the base of his cup. The sound simmered along with the vapor of the creamer and essence of the coffee rising in the air. It was sweet.
"I don't really care about turning back time."
"With what then?" I asked.
There was a transparent awe on his face, he was watching me watching him. The anger that ruined us were smoke now of long wildfire season. The love that also charred us was ashes enmeshed with the mudāpart earth, part rain, part usābut not quite part of us.
"I'm more concerned about stopping it, just in case someone like you comes my way again."
